Abstract: The oribatid mite genus Pelopsis, found in forest litter and swamp habitats in the Americas is redefined. Current information indicates that Pelopsis is most closely related to Minunthozetes, Punctoribates and Zachvatkinibates in the mycobatid subfamily Minunthozetinae. A new species, P. baloghi, is proposed, based on material from swamp vegetation in lowland tropical rainforest of Costa Rica.
