Abstract: The Tortricid moth Laspeyresia compositella F. can be found everywhere in the Carpathian Basin, and is rather frequent here. Its food plants are Medicago sativa L, and Trifolium spp. The swarming of the imagos happens from the end of May or the beginning of June till the middle of August. It is on the wing (and pairs) from twilight till sunrise. The females begin the laying of their eggs 4-6 days after their emergence, finishing it at about the end of August. They attach the eggs always on the leaves of the lucerne (1-2, eventually 3-4 eggs per leaf). Egg sizes: lenght 0.48-0.62 mm, bredth 1.28-0.32 mm. Embryonal development takes 4-6 days. The larvae hatch four times during their development having 5 instars. Larval sizes: L1 st. 1.2-1.75 mm, L5 st. 7.1-8 mm. The pupating of the partial second generation is in the soil at a depth of 0.5-2 cm, that of the first at 7-8 cm. Prepupal stage has a duration of 6-10 days, pupal stage 7-13 days. Pupae may be found around the roots of seed lucerne in the soil from the middle of June till the middle of August. The caterpillars feed on lucerne buds, flowers and seeds in the pods. The ratio of injury, depending on the age of the seed lucerne, fluctuates between 3-43%. As a control measurement, a dusting by HCH per 20 kg/kh in the green bud period, and by Melipax or Thiodan pe 12 kg/kh at blossoming time was very efficient.Journal: Folia entomologica hungaricaJournal abbreviation: Folia ent. hung.ISSN: 0373-9465Publisher: , Editor(s): Kovács, I.
