Abstract: Two krad dose of gamma radiation results in 100% of mortality in bean weevil eggs. 1-5 days old 1st and 2nd instar larvae are completely hindered in the development by 2-4 krad dosages. Older larvae and pupae have a higher level of radiation resistance. Dosages giving total sterility are: for males 10 krad, for females about, 20-25 krad-. The fekundity of gamma-irradiated females decreased proportionately with the increasing dosages. The decrease in fecundity came to 3-4% per 5 krad. Generally there was not any difference found between the effects of gamma- and X-ray radiations. The longevity of irradiated adults declined significantly at higher (about 50 krad) dosages. The cool storage of sterilized adults at lower (+5Co) temperatureis possible. This kind of treatment does not have any effect on longevity but on fecundity.
