Abstract: By the death of GÁBOR REICHART Hungarian zoology in general, but especially the entomology of plant protection has lost a very thorough and multilateral specialist. He had spent 35 years of his active life in the Zoological Section of the Plant Protection Institute, Budapest, where he had been a deputy head for seven years. His main interest was the group of Tortricid moths and the biology of pest moths in general, though when need arose he was ready to work in any field that concerned the entomology of plant protection. Not only was he a precise scientist, he also deemed it necessary to popularize science. His life-long hobby of insect photography was most useful to him in this line too: he published some 4000 photographs depicting insects or objects of plant protection. In 1952 he was awarded the academic degree of C.Sc. then in 1976 D.Sc. (agriculture). He retired in 1978. The number of his articles and scientific contributions runs into several hundreds. We will cherish the memory in Hungarian entomology of his ever helpful personality.
