Abstract: The type specimens of 27 species of Flatidae described by Melichar were studied. The genitalia of 15 holotype or lectotype males were illustrated. New synonyms are the following species, each a unior synonym of the species shown in parentheses: Colgar indicata Melichar (=Colgar diversa Melichar), Colgar similata Melichar (=Nephesa bistriguttata Stal.), Paratella fumaria Melichar (=Paratella modesta Melichar), Paratella roseoalba Melichar (=Nephesa decolor Walker), Poeciloflata luteofasciata Melichar (=Poeciloflata modesta (Donovan)). New combinations are: Papuanella cyanea (Melichar) and Papuanella despecta (Melichar) eah from Sephena. Colgar diversa Melichar is restored as a valid species of Neomelicharia, not a synonym of Poeciliptera ocellifera Walker
