Abstract: Site-fidelity and displacement between certain habitats of carabid beetles Abax ater (Villers, 1789) and A. ovalis (Duftschmid, 1812) was analyzed in the area of the Aggtelek National Park (NE Hungary) using mark-release-recapture method. The results suggest that Abax ater shows site-fidelity, while A. ovalis not. The possible causes (directed movement, random-walk, inter- and intraspecific competition, ecological corridors) of movements are also discussed.
