Year: 1996
Volume: 57
Pages: 67-74.

Abstract: Alternative hosts of Frankliniella occidentalis (Pergande, 1895) and its natural enemies have been studied in a Vegetable growing area in South-east Spain. In most non-cultivated plant species associated with crops this thrips can be reproduced, being frequent and abundant on Sisymbrium irio, Rapistrum rudosum, Brassica conssoniana, Rosmarinus officinalis, Sonchus spp., Urtica dioica and Solanum nigrum. on some of these hosts, several natural enemies have been found to be associated with F. occidentalis. Orius laevigatus and O. albidipennis have been the most frequent and abundant, where Rosmarinus officinalis was acting as a winter resevoir and providing support for reproduction where throughout the year. Two parasitoid species (Ceranisus menes and C. lepidotus) have been collected in spring, being more frequently on Rosmarinus officinalis and Rapistrum rugosum.
