Abstract: The results of two University of Idaho Research and Extension projects are presented. A three year survey of the barley thrips, Limothrips denticornis Haliday was conducted to help with the control of this pest in spring barley, Hordeum vulgare in eastern Idaho, Usa. The barley thrips overwinter primarily in sagebrush, Artemisia spp. and secondarily in aspen stands, Populus tremuloides. Both suction trap and white sticky card sampling techniques were effective in monitoring the movement and distribution of the barley thrips. The results of a second sampling program for thrips in common bean, plants throughout the growing season, Frankliniella occidentalis and Thrips tabaci. Both species were distributed evenly within the plant foliage prior to bloom. During the bloom period F. occidentalis was found primarily within the buds and blossoms while Th. tabaci remained primarily within the foliage.Journal: Folia entomologica hungaricaJournal abbreviation: Folia ent. hung.ISSN: 0373-9465Publisher: , Editor(s): Mahunka, S.
