Title: First signs of an area extension of Meconema méridionale (Orthoptera: Tettigonioidea) to NE in Hungary

Abstract: The originally north Mediterranian Meconema méridionale Costa, 1860 was extending its area during the last two decades more and more north/northwestward, so it reached Belgium and The Netherlands in the 1990s. This katydid was known long ago from Slovenia and N Dalmatia too, however, an expansion from here to northeastward - except two old data (not confirmed since 32 years) from around Vienna - was not observed until now. The first detections in SW Hungary (in 1995 and 2000) seem to be as initial signs for an area extension to NE. It is to be noted, that all the three sites of detection in Hungary - on contrary to the most NW European experiences - were situated far from the main traffic routes, and these habitats seem to be natural or seminatural ones. The extension to the area of M. méridionale to northeastward may be due to the global warming and also to a probable climatic adaptation.
