Abstract: Sedimentology and stratigraphy of a detrital complex (mainly calcareous sandstones and limestone conglomerates) deposited unconformably into a marine Middle Eocene limestone sequence (zone of Nummulites perforatus) are discussed. The complex is the result of a short period of emergence and erosion and contains reworked fossils characteristic to two preceding biozones (N. laevigatus + Assilina spira). It is argued that the sea-level oscillation phenomena observed here and in many other parts of the Eocene in the Bakony Mts. could be arranged into regional horizons by means of more precise biostratigraphic analysis.
