Abstract: The discovery of some new localities in Hungary {the karstic cavities Várbarlang-Hilton, Nagyharsányhegy 6. and the Cave of Hórvölgy) gave a stimulus for a new revision of the faunas of the very imperfectly known upper part of the Middle Pleistocene of our territory. A very searching microsystematical-statistical analysis of this faunas indicated the establishing of a new microstratigraphical unite (biozone) called "castellum-phase".
