Title: Early and late Miocene Floras from the Iharosberény-I and Tiszapalkonya-I Boreholes
Year: 1992
Volume: 15
Pages: 7-40.

Abstract: The flora from the Iharosberény-I borehole contains elements of a riparian-swamp forest of Pannonian age and an evergreen laurophyllous forest of Early Miocene age. The flora of the Tiszapalkonya-I borehole derives from a riparian-swamp forest of Pannonian age. It is very similar to the Pannonian flora of Iharosberény, characterized by Glyptostrobus europaeus, Alnus cecropiaefolia, and Byttneriophyllum tiliaefolium. The Early Miocene flora of Iharosberény preserves remains of zonal vegetation, an evergreen, laurophyllous, thermophile forest. The climate, as indicated by the leaf remains, was warm-temperate in the Pannonian and subtropical in the Lower Miocene.
