Abstract: A modification of Faust’s method for the detection of Giardia-cysts is described. As in the original method 33 per cent zinc-sulphate solution (specific gravity 1.180) is used. After pouring off the crude faecal particles 0.1-0.2 ml of 1 per cent alum solution (KAl (SO4/2 × 12 H20, specific gravity 1.010) is carefully layered on the surface of zincsulphate-faeces mixture. After centrifugation for 5 minutes (4000 rev. per min.) 1 per cent eosin solution is dropped on the surface and the centrifuged material is microscopically examined in the usual way. This modified method allows a 60-70 per cent time-saving as compared to the original method and keeps cysts in an identifiable condition for a period of 16-18 hours.Journal: Parasitologia HungaricaJournal abbreviation: ISSN: 0303-688XPublisher: Népművelési Propaganda Iroda, BudapestEditor(s): Kassai, T., Nemes, I. & Kralovánszky, A.
