Abstract: Few data have hitherto been available on the Macrochelide of the Hungarian fauna. The elaboration of the group in this respect became acute in view of the forthcoming volume dealing with this group in the serial work “Fauna Hungariae”, and the study of the possible biological control means concerning the synanthropous flies. The authors worked up the material preserved in the collections of the Hungarian Natural History Museum, and also made extensive collections in all regions of the country for the elaboration of especially species living in excrements of animal origin. The distribution per habitat is given in detail in the paper, as well as a list per locality of the 31 species assignable to 4 genera - therefore the entire heterofore known Hungarian Macrochelid fauna. A great number of data has already been published as regards life-history, range, and distribution per habitat; in order to obviate repetitions, the data concerning habitats are submitted here summarily and only the basic data of collection are given in the enumeration of the species. 1. Soil, humus, litter and moss fauna: Holostaspella ornata, Geholaspis mandibularis, G. longispinosus, Macrholaspis dentatus, M. opacus, Macrocheles carinatus, M. caucasicus, M. decoloratus, M. glaber, M. kolpakovae, M. matrius, M. matrius pratensis, M. matrius violovitschii, M. punctoscutatus, M. recki, M. rotundiscutis, M. subbadius, M. tardus; 2. In animal excrement, accumulated in natural conditions or by artificial means, and in the soil of stables: Geholaspis longispinosus, G. mandibularis, Macrocheles insignatus, M. matrius, M. merdarius, M. muscaedomesticae, M. nataliae, M. pavlovskii, M. perglaber, M. punctillatus, M. plumiventris, M. vagabundus; 3. In the nests and galeries of small mammals: Macrocheles decoloratus (from the nests of Apodemus silvaticus and Microtus arvalis); 4. In avian nests: Macrocheles merdarius, M. plumiventris (both from the nests of Ciconia ciconia); 5. In insect nests: Geholaspis mandibularis (in abandoned ant-hills); 6. On insects: Macrocheles perglaber (Geotrupes vernalis), Macrocheles subbadius (Fannia canicularis, Stomoxys calcitrans).Journal: Parasitologia HungaricaJournal abbreviation: ISSN: 0303-688XPublisher: Népművelési Propaganda Iroda, BudapestEditor(s): Holló, F., Harsányi, L., K.
