Abstract: Inbred mice of strains CBA/T6T6, A, C57B1/10Sn, and B10.LP were found to have acarinosis due to Myocoptes musculinus or Myobia musculi mites, with clinical pictures differing in the degree of severity in the above rising sequence related very likely to variation of strain sensitivity. Trial of four different insecticides (Bayer compound 9010), Tetocid (Chinoin), Malathion (ICI), Pyractone (Allen) at different dose levels was carried out on mice 5 months old. All the four preparations killed the imago stages of Myocoptes musculinus within 2-6 hours, but exclusively Pyractone was active against Myobia musculi. While against Myocoptes musculinus in vitro Pyractone developed 100 % knock-down effect at 0.5 % concentration, in vivo a 1 % concentration was required to obtain a similar effect. At a 3 % level, Pyractone killed 2 of 20 mice, but in the applied therapeutic concentration it did not interfere with in insemination and reproduction, neither did it damage the newborn. As shown in Table 2, the acaricid effects of the preparations Bayer 9010, Tetocid (Chinoin), and Malathion (ICI) were insufficient for the eradication of Myobia. While Pyractone (Allen) was 100 % effektive in vitro at 0.1 % concentration, it developed a similar effect in vivo (Table 2) at 1 % concentration.Journal: Parasitologia HungaricaJournal abbreviation: ISSN: 0303-688XPublisher: Népművelési Propaganda Iroda, BudapestEditor(s): Holló, F., Harsányi, L., K.
