Abstract: According to the communications in the literature, Abate (Cyanamid) larvicide seems to be the compound preventing nature from being contaminated because of its selective insecticide effect. Pilot laboratory and field experiments were carried out with Abate formulations; the effect of 1-SG 1% core granules, and 1-CG 1% Celatom granules was tested on IIIrd and IVth instar larvae of Anopheles maculipennis Meig. s.l. and Cnaoborus pallidus Fabr. The results were as follows: 10 ppm of Abate of both formulations killed 100% of both Anopheles and Chaoborus larvae within 9 and 24 hours, respectively. It has also been established that neither 100 fold nor even 200 fold quantity of the tested 10 ppm concentration had any toxic effect on Lebistes reticulatus and Xiphophorus (Platypoecilus) maculatus.
