Abstract: 40-day-old Nippostrongylus brasiliensis worms, obtained after the infection of rats younger than 18 days, and 9-day-old worms, obtained from adult rats after primary infection, were transplanted into the duodenum of susceptible, laparatomized rats (100 worms in each group, comprising of 15 females and 85 males). 1000 larval challenge infection was given 22 days later comparing the resistance in two consecutive experiments of immunized animals to those of susceptible controls. On day 9 following reinfection, a significantly lower immunizing capacity was observed in rats immunized by the 40-day-old worms, as opposed to the 9-day-old ones. The results suggest, that the mature worms derived from the primary infection of young animals undergo a certain adaptation, which renders them less immunogenic to subsequent infection.Journal: Parasitologia HungaricaJournal abbreviation: ISSN: 0303-688XPublisher: Népművelési Propaganda Iroda, BudapestEditor(s): Kassai, T., Kralovánszky, A., K.
