Abstract: The flea fauna of two water-side, reedy, moist meadowlands located at a distance of about 120 km from each other is comparatively analysed. One region (Kisbalaton) was found more abundant in flea species than the other (Lake Velence). This can be explained by the less favourable conditions of the Lake Velence region for repopulation by flea species following inundation in contrast to the Kisbalaton region. In the Lake Velence region only Sorex-species, capable of maintaining themselves in biotops of high humidity, can permanently survive.
