Abstract: First record of an outbreak of toxoplasmosis in three derby kangaroos (Thylogale eugenii) kept in the Budapest Zoo. Diagnosis based on clinical manifestation and pathological picture was confirmed by histological examinations and animal experiments. An oral route of infection was ascertained because oocysts of Toxoplasma were found in both dry and fresh feline faeces collected in the room where the food for kangaroos had been prepared. Mice were successfully infected with these oocysts. The relevance of hygienic measures to prevent infections and the role of cats in spreading the disease are stressed.
