Abstract: Ectoparasitological investigation of 221 birds belonging to 58 species were conducted in 1973-1976 at the delta region of the Danube. From the 141 birds infected (63.8%) a total of 3647 Mallophaga specimens were collected and found to belong to 115 species (of them 10 subspecies) and 40 genera. Handicapped birds harboured much heavier burden of parasites than healthy ones.
