Abstract: Asexual reproduction (endodyogeny, schizogony) in four coccidian species (Eimeria tenella, Toxoplasma gondii, Sarcocystis sp., Frenkelia sp.) has been studied by means of electron microscopy. Endodyogenies occurred in the four coccidian species studied here; schizogonies were only observed in E. tenella and T. gondii. According to the present analysis endodyogeny is the primary and fundamental process of asexual reproduction in the Coccidia and apparently in all Sporozoa, and schizogeny is a secondary process of reproduction which has developed from endodyogeny.
