Abstract: Six foals of the age of 16 to 40 days were infected with 1000 larvae of Strongylus vulgaris and 6 days later challenged with 300-600 larvae each. Two foals were dosed twice with mebendazole, on the 50th and 51st day p.i. at 120 mg/kg body-weight; two foals were given mebendazole once at 150 mg/kg body-weight on the 22nd and 40th day p.i., respectively. The animals were authopsied on the 10th and 18th day after treatment. In the treated animals remnants of killed and partially decayed larvae were found only. In the arteries of the two control foals 54 and 248 alive Strongylus vulgaris larvae 6-15 mm long were counted.
