Abstract: The Zoological Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Soviet Union was established in 1832. At present ten laboratories, three project teams, two biological stations and two museum departments constitute the institute in Leningrad. Among the many-sided research topics in zoology, parasitology is one of the fields with great tradition and intense pursuance. Scientist working in the field of zoological parasitology are divided into three organisations: arachno-entomological laboratory, protistological laboratory, and the helminthological laboratory which latter works directly under the auspicies of the directing board. Many scientific papers, annals, books and monographs mark their scientific achievements, and the zoological collections deposited in the institute are of great value even in world-wide context.
