Abstract: V. A. Dogiel (1882-1955) was an outstanding specialist of protozoology and fish parasitology. He published 260 scientific papers and books, and from 1914 he was chair-holding professor of invertebrate zoology at the University of Leningrad. Ecological parasitology, as a branch of biology owes its origin to Prof. Dogiel. On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of his birthday students commemorate his magnificent personality and carry on his scientific inheritance and contribute towards realising the ecological parasitological programme envisaged by Professor Dogiel.
