Abstract: Amidostomosis is a common infection of the geese in Hungary. Despite its high incidence, this condition is only exceptionally manifested in clinical signs due to a coincidence of factors favouring heavy infection of geese on pasture under the continental climate in this country. Thus, a systematic control of amidostomosis has not been practised, although even its complete eradication might be achieved. The significance of amidostomosis is still not to be neglected, being an important risk factor of the efficient goose fattening. Lesions of the gizzard, also in lightly infected animals, make the forcible feeding intolerable. The animals harbouring some 100 to 200 worms may already die. Smaller amount of worms reduce the body weight gain and feed conversion as well as the expected size of the liver. It is recommended, therefore, to eliminate all worms from geese destined for forcible feeding by a 6 days’ administration of trichlorphon (“Ditrifon”) in the drinking water at a rate of 0.01%.
