Abstract: Using mathematical methods, the relationship between the size and qualitative composition of the house-dust mite fauna present in the surroundings of asthmatic patients and the intensity of allergic skin- and spirographic reactions was examined. On the basis of the correlation coefficient calculated by the standard mathematical technique, significant correlation was found between the number of mites and the intensity of reactions. The present investigations substantiate the significance of the qualitative composition of the mite fauna, or of the role of mites other than Dermatophagoides in Hungary, and the necessity of appropriate extension of the allergen set used for diagnostic testing of asthmatic patients.
