Abstract: The possibility of natural infection of suckling rabbits with intestinal coccidia was examined by the McMaster oocyst counting technique. The following conclusions were drawn from the results of several examinations: 1) The quantity of mother’s oocyst output does not influence the level of infection of the sucklings. 2) The wire mesh floor itself cannot interrupt the infection of suckling rabbits in the does cage. 3) Oocysts can always be found in relatively large numbers in the faeces of sucklings without any clinical signs. This fact emphasises the need for distinguishing pathogenic and non-pathogenic species in the diagnosis of rabbit enteric diseases.
