Abstract: A total of 1296 specimens belonging to 17 species of insectivores and rodents were examined for parasites between 1980 and 1982 in the Slanské Vrchy - Zemplén mts (West Carpathians, Czechoslovakia - Hungary). The collected 1108 specimens of fleas belonged to 18 species or subspecies. The number of species of fleas of small mammals known from the area is 22. The fauna of the area is compared with those of the neighbouring mountains and its zoogeographical properties are also discussed.
