Abstract: Seventy-three (76.84%) of out 95 bird species belonging to 15 orders and collected in the delta region of the Danube were found to be infected by Mallophaga. Of the investigated 163 specimens authors 175 specimens (66.53%) have found to be host to Mallophaga. A total of 6 450 Mallophaga specimens were collected from the infected birds, which belonged to 126 species (of them 16 subspecies) and 51 genera. Six species could be identified only to generic level. According to literature data 29 of these 126 Mallophaga species (of them 4 subspecies) are new to the fauna of Roumania. In addition to the faunistical data, ecological considerations are also given.
