Abstract: One alternative of mosquito control is presented by controlling the larvae by using selective, biological agents and protecting thus the environment. To do this effectively, a thorough knowledge of the mosquito fauna of the given area is of outmost importance. In the inundation area along the river Danube the mosquito fauna is composed to 98% from species of Aedes genus and to 1-1% from Culex and Anopheles species. For the control of mosquito larvae preparations based on diphenphos (Abate 1 SG), methoprene (Viodat 10 MG) and on Bacillus thuringiensis var, israelensis (H-14) (Teknar) were compared. By considering the environmental points of view and the selective biological effectivity Teknar suspension was found the most preferable.
