Abstract: The theory of coevolution is strongly criticized recently, with an alternative, the theory of sequential evolution emerging. The main arguments of these are discussed here and an intermediate views preferred for the case of hosts and their parasites. It is suggested that selective pressure is reciprocal but asymmetrical between host and parasite populations meanwhile cladogenetic relationships are unilateral. Keywords: host-parasite relationship, coevolution sequential evolution
