Abstract: A total of 17 Hungarian half-blood, cold-blooded and Welsh pony foals were examined because of clinical symptoms attributed to mallophagosis. Chewing or biting lice, Werneckiella equi equi (Denny, 1842), were identified from hair samples. The foals were divided into four groups, of which 3 groups were treated with paste: 3 foals with Strongid Plus (PFIZER), 5 foals with Eqvalan (MSD) and 3 foals with Rintal Plus (BAYER) at doses of 1 ml/10 kg, 0.2 mg/kg and 8.4 g/100 kg body weight, respectively. Further 6 foals kept in another part of the same stable were sprayed with a 0.2% emulsion of Butox-B 12.5 (Roussel Uclaf-Bábolna). Post-treatment changes in the incidence of lice were quantitatively recorded during a period of 101 days. A total of 4578 nits were counted in 153 “unit” hair samples. From the 13th day of the treatments no nits or imagoes were found in the samples except in those from a single horse at day 42 of treatment with Butox-B 12.5.Keywords: Strongid Plus (Pfizer), Eqvalan (MSD), Werneckiella equi equi infestation, Rintal Plus (Bayer), Butox-B 12.5 (Roussel Uclaf-Bábolna)
