Abstract: Amphistomosis is one of the economically most important diseases of buffalo in tropical countries where it causes enormous morbidity and mortality. Different studies pertaining to seasonal reproduction, snail population dynamics, cercarial emergence and encystment, prevalence of immature and mature amphistomes, seasonal biochemical changes associated with the reproductive behaviour of amphistomes are reviewed and a two-phase strategic time-based control programme is envisaged in this paper. A future line of research on the management and control of buffalo amphistomosis is suggested.
