Abstract: In small isolated populations of the wild form of the Southeast European house mouse (Mus musculus spicilegus Petényi, 1882) originating from one pair of founder animals there is no sign for a "crowding". Among the adult females of such isolated populations only one was in her reproductive phase, all the others were inactive. On the contrary, in confined populations of laboratory mice all of the adult females were asexually active, but in the overcrowded populations their litters have no chances for survival.
