Abstract: The author collected and examined the contains of the pellets of the long-eared owl (Asio otus (L.)) originating from a twelf year period of winters 1961-1973 in the neighbourhood of Gyula (SE-Hungary). He elaborated the material from the point of view of micromammals. The three main mammals of prey of the long-eared owl are the field mouse (Microtuas arvalis Pall.), the Apodemus-group and the house mouse (Mus musculus L.). The percentile relation of these species to the whole of mammals of prey is different and depending from the gradations. The overpopulation of the field mice could be established during 1964, 1967 and 1970. During these years that species was represented with 75 % of the whole amount. During the break down following the gradations the number of Apodemus and Mus musculus was increasing.
