Abstract: Morphometric data on metamorphosed specimens of Pachytriton brevipes from a population at Fukien (PR China) have been analysed. The considered eidonomic and anatomic items of Pachytriton are interpreted as functional adaptions to ecological conditions. Eidonomic and radiographic findings permit to hypothesize that the genera Pachytriton Boulenger, 1878 (China) and Euproctus Gené, 1838 (SW-Europe) radiated from a common phyletic origin.
