Abstract: The problem of the traits characterizing domesticated animals in comparison to their wild ancestors is discussed. The common characteristics of all races and lines of the domesticated rabbit seem to be of a nature different from the mono- or digenic determined race and line
characteristics. Domesticated rabbit cannot be regared as pure-bred mutants carrying some specific alleles which are very rare among individuals of wild populations. The altered nucleic acid metabolism characterizing domesticated rabbits is emphasized.Subject: zoology
