Abstract: The characteristic species of the genus Scythis in the soil fauna of Central and Inner Asian deserts. Identification key to 26 species and 10 subspecies. Two species: S. latithorax sp. n. and S. vtorovianus sp. n. and two subspecies: S. rotundicollis totundangula ssp. n. and S. arenarius australis ssp. n. are new to science. Description of new subtribes as Himatismina subtr. n. and Pachycerina subtr. n. on the basis of imagos and larvae. New synonimes are Megascythis Keljenikova, 1963, syn. n. = Scythis Schaum, 1865; Scythodonta Reitter, 1896 syn. n. = Scytosoma Reitter, 1895; Scythis sulciceps (Gebler, 1841) = Hypsosoma sulciceps(Gebler, 1841), comb. n.; Scythis juxtalaca Skopin, 1964 = Hypsosoma juxtalaca (Skopin, 1964), comb. n.; Microdera scythiformis Reitter, 1915 = Scythis intermedia scythiformis (Reitter, 1915), comb. et stat. n.
