Abstract: Eighteen species of Spermophagus SCHÖNHERR, 1833 collected in Ghana, Iran, South Africa, Syria, Taiwan, and Thailand by several expeditions of Hungarian entomologists and deposited in the Hungarian Natural History Museum are listed. Spermophagus arcis sp. n. is described from Western Syria; it is assigned to the S. sericeus species-group. One species (S. borowieci ANTON, 1996) is recorded for the first time from Iran, three species (S. caricus DECELLE, 1982, S. confusus BOROWIEC, 1986, S. pubiventris BAUDI, 1886) from Syria, one species (S. ruandanusBOROWIEC, 1991) from SouthAfrica, and three species (S. albosparsus GYLLENHAL, 1833, S. ligatus CHEVROLAT, 1877, S. sinensis PIC, 1918) from Thailand.
