Abstract: Types of seven Bathyaulax species described by SZÉPLIGETI from tropical Africa are valid (B. bicolor SZÉPLIGETI, 1906, B. concolor SZÉPLIGETI, 1906, B. cyanogaster SZÉPLIGETI, 1901, B. perspicax SZÉPLIGETI, 1905, B. rufus SZÉPLIGETI, 1906, B. transitus SZÉPLIGETI, 1913) and one name (B. areolatus SZÉPLIGETI, 1913) is junior synonym of B. kersteni (GERSTAECKER, 1871). B. transitus is resurrected from the synonymy of Megagonia rufa SZÉPLIGETI, 1906. These seven species and B. martinii (GRIBODO, 1879) are redescribed, and a key is given for them. A list of the 52 species of Bathyaulax is given with subgeneric affiliation of the species. With 124 figures.
