Abstract: The Natural History Museum of Bakony Mountains in Zirc (Hungary) opened to the
public in 1972. Its core activity focuses on scientific research related to the Bakony Mts, alongside
collecting, preserving and exhibiting natural objects. A research programme entitled “Natural History
of Bakony Mountains” has been undertaken since 1962. Journals issued by the museum are
Folia Musei Historico-naturalis Bakonyiensis and Resultationes Investigationum Rerum Naturalium
Montium Bakony. The four-volume popular science series “Natural History of Bakony Mountains”
was also issued by the museum. In 2013 the museum was merged by government decree into the
