Abstract: Sphenope gen. n. (Pygopidae, Terebratulida, Brachiopoda) and Sphenope bifi da sp. n. are described on the basis of specimens collected from the Tithonian and Berriasian limestones from the Bakony and Gerecse Mountains (Hungary) and from western Sicily. Sphenope gen. n. is compared to the genera Triangope Dieni et Middlemiss, 1981 and Securithyris Vörös, 1983, and the distinctive features used in the morphological classifi cation of the subfamily Triangopinae are given. With 37 fi gures.
