Abstract: This first paper of the authors', planned as a series running for several years, contains the short history of the bryologie al investigations conducted in the Carpato-Pannonicum. The further purpose is the exposition of factors determining the distribution of the moss species in the region, and a parallel outlining of the entire expectable area for further researches. The distribution of the first three moss genera of Reimers system, delimited according to their ranges by geological and phytogeographical bases, are discussed, and the conclusions allowed by the available data drawn.
