Abstract: Vincent Borbás was the most original Hungarian botanist at the turn of the century. He gave, on a floristical basis, not only a number of enduring floristical, ecological, historico-phytogeographical and an initial phytocoenological survey of the Pannonian flora, but also submitted many original morphological, systematical, ecological and physiological observations. Despite his strenuous circumstances,
he published about 900 smaller to bigger papers. His so-called floral works still merit study. Borbás's work is characterized by a summary of statements made by recognized botanists (Degen, Rapaics, Gombocz, Boros, Soó).Subject: botany
