Abstract: The first vegetation map of Mt Badacsony, a major landmark mount in the Balaton Uplands was
made almost 50 years ago, immediately after the closing of the basalt mines and the foundation of
the landscape protection area of the region. In that Pál Jakucs demonstrated the advantages of using
aerial photographs in vegetation mapping. The present article gives results of the new mapping
project of Mt Badacsony, overviews the landscape history of the area, gives detailed and current
