Abstract: The first vegetation map of Mt Badacsony, a major landmark mount in the Balaton Uplands was made almost 50 years ago, immediately after the closing of the basalt mines and the foundation of the landscape protection area of the region. In that Pál Jakucs demonstrated the advantages of using aerial photographs in vegetation mapping. The present article gives results of the new mapping project of Mt Badacsony, overviews the landscape history of the area, gives detailed and current descriptions of the various types of habitats and vegetation units.
