Abstract: Cetraria islandica is a rare lichen species with 20 known localities in Hungary. It became legally protected in Hungary in 2013. However, its distribution, habitat preferences and population dynamical conditions are insufficiently known and the species is still regarded as rare. The species is discussed on the basis of its Hungarian representatives and the so far revealed localities are presented on an updated distribution map.
