Abstract: The 93 most characteristic and dominant diatom taxa (including varieties and forms)
of soda pans are presented in this study with detailed information on their distribution. The taxonomical
position of five taxa is still unclear. Altogether 1257 light and 180 scanning electron microscopic
photos are shown from cleaned valves and frustules as well as from living cells (cultures
