Abstract: The taxonomic interpretations of Ganoderma japonicum (Polyporus japonicus) was controversial
in mycological studies and formerly proposed to be dropped for consideration, because
of the lack of type specimen. However, according to the International Code for Nomenclature for
algae, fungi and plants, P. japonicus is a superfluous name for Boletus dimidiatus published validly
by Thunberg in 1784. The original material of B. dimidiatus is available at the Museum of Evolution
at Uppsala University (UPS). Therefore the new combination Ganoderma dimidiatum is proposed
hereby.
