Abstract: The paper summarises the results of the author’s twenty-eight trips, carried out with the help of exchange programs and thematic research programs between academies. The Bryophyte Collection of the Hungarian Natural History Museum (HNHM) was enriched with about 2,500 Asian and nearly 4,000 Balkan bryophyte specimens. Conference participations of the early trips were important in shaping scientific careers and building relationships between colleagues, and also profoundly influenced the development of the HNHM Bryophyte Collection. Several foreign colleagues visited the HNHM within the framework of exchange programs and carried out taxonomic revisions, which also increased the value of the collection. The 27 published articles and 22 conference abstracts also prove the success of the trips and the inter-academic scientific programs.
